Mykhailo Mudryk transfer news: Tottenham sign Chelsea winger on loan as Tosin joins in permanent deal

Tottenham have signed Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

Mudryk has not played a competitive game since November 2024 due to a doping ban that was resolved in July.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea for £88.5m in January 2023 amid much fanfare, with the Blues beating Arsenal to his signing.

But the Ukraine international failed to live up to that price tag at Stamford Bridge and will now look to reignite his career in north London.

Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi coached Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk and even tipped him as a future Ballon d'Or winner.

Mudryk has been followed at Spurs by Chelsea team-mate Tosin, who has joined in a £12m deal.

Spurs will pay £10m up front for the defender, with £2m in add-ons.

The 28-year-old is a replacement for Kevin Danso, who moved to Sunderland on a season-long loan.

There is a £22m obligation to make the move permanent if the Black Cats avoid relegation this season.

Mudryk, who will wear the number 27 shirt at Spurs, said: "It's a great feeling. I can't wait to start training and playing for the club, and I'm so excited to be reunited with Roberto De Zerbi.

"I'm a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help in both the offensive and defensive areas. I want to make the fans excited.

"I can see it's a strong squad here with good players, and I'm looking forward to sharing a pitch and special moments with them."

De Zerbi added: "Having worked with Misha earlier in his career, I know exactly what he can bring to our team.

"He has the quality to change a game with his speed and ability in one-vs-one situations, and is an exciting, attacking talent.

"I will demand a lot from Misha and it is our job to help him find the best version of himself. If we do that then he can become a very important player for us. I am very happy he chose to come here, and I cannot wait to work with him again."

Spurs sporting director, Johan Lange, said: "We believe he [Mudryk] has the attributes to make a real contribution to our team and we are excited to see his development in our environment.

"Mykhailo's ambition and determination to take on this challenge has impressed me. He has a strong desire to succeed and improve, and that fits well with the culture we are building.

"We will fully support Mykhailo as he settles in, works with Roberto and our coaching staff and his new teammates, and we look forward to this next chapter of his career."

Mudryk was suspended for four years for failing a drug test, which revealed the presence of a low concentration of meldonium, a prohibited substance, two years ago.

Mudryk filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) while changes to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) procedures in the interim mean that had his failed test produced the same result now, charges would not have been brought.

The FA said: "Changes have been made… which, while not retroactive, mean that if Mr Mudryk's sample was collected today, the concentration of meldonium in the sample would not have been reported and no anti-doping rule violations would have resulted.

"Further to that development and to other circumstances of the case, the FA and Mr Mudryk have now - with the agreement of WADA - resolved the appeal proceedings.

"As a part of the agreement, Mr Mudryk accepted that he had committed the ADRVs (Anti-Doping Rule Violations) charged and acceded to a period of ineligibility equal to the time served at the date of the agreement.

"Mr Mudryk is no longer ineligible and may return to competition with immediate effect."
